In 1897 Nikola Tesla founded Sonic Research Laboratories after a wealthy widow hired Tesla to research a method to broadcast her recently deceased husband's favorite music to him in the afterlife.
Tesla, instead directed the bulk of the funding to develop a powerful, uni-directional low-frequency oscillator that he planned to point in the direction of Thomas Edison's Menlo Park research facility. With the goal of seeking revenge by both annoying the notoriously deaf Edison with inaudible vibrations and to use the low frequencies to make Edison poop himself.*
It's namesake continues to this day in the form of this humble but loveable radio program. Dedicated to exploring the possibilities inherent in free-format radio broadcasting.
