See the Transmitter This Saturday (category: General)
There's still time to sign up for a tech seminar held by our own chief engineer, Tom Siglin, this Saturday morning. Here's the skinny:
(No offense to station members who aren't skinny)
Come to WHRW's Fall 2002 Tech Seminar from 11am-3pm on October 19, in UUWB08 (the meeting room next door to the station lobby). Trekkies and Techies take heed, though; this is not the pocket calculator convention you'd expect such an event to be. Oh, au contraire...our station's Chief Engineer, Senor Tom Siglin, will explain the how's and why's of our station's daily operations, ranging anywhere from the cool hardware toys that we have at our fingertips here, to our transmitter power and overall physical listen'g range (ya know, the people who still hear us in the rare instant of our website crashing). This class, at one time, was mandatory for station members to become a fully cleared WHRW engineers. It also gave us 9-0-5 dj's a better understanding of how a real, FCC-licensed radio station works, an experience which most college stations will certainly never attain. Plus Tom will finish it off with an escort to the Library Tower, where he'll give us a grand tour of the transmitter that "keeps us lit" year-round.
So if you're interested in brushing up on your mechanical savvy, or just want something new & interesting to do on a Saturday, fill your name out on the blue sign-in sheet in the lobby as you walk in. This opportunity's open to all station members (apprentices, too!!!)... and yes, I'll even try twisting Tom's arm to let me bring free food (if he objects, I guess we'll hafta set up a refreshment table outside). RSVP ASAP, so Tom knows how many people are planning to attend.
Attending the seminar gets you 4 HOURS of Station Service. Hey, even if you don't do anything else, that means that apprentices can take the test next time around.
Hope to see y'all there!!!
Sincerely,
Brian "Caveman" Nayor,
